With at least 35 years’ experience within the construction industry. Having served his time as an apprentice bricklayer with Miller Buckley in the North East, he then moved South and settled in London where he worked for various large Brickwork sub-contractors, progressing to foreman, project manager and construction manager, before founding Blou Construction in 2010 with the aim to build an exceptional bricklaying contracting business.
Paul has worked on various large contracts such as Colchester Garrison, Westfield Stratford, The Olympic Village and The Olympic Park.
Paul’s responsibilities within Blou lie within the Brickwork side of the business: setting strategies, enhancing the company’s reputation, generating project opportunities and securing these opportunities with creative, innovative and competitive tenders, whilst managing a high standard of both quality and safety.
John has been a part of the building industry for over 45 years, first serving his apprenticeship as a Quantity Surveyor with Bernard Sunley & Sons Ltd.
Spending a large part of his career to date with Parkrose Builders Ltd; a specialist, high-end Joinery company. John was appointed the Commercial Manager on a full-time basis. During his time with Parkrose Builders, John has worked on some very prestigious projects such as: Wrights Lane, Kensington; Duke of York Headquarters, V&A Museum and the New Parliamentary Buildings.
Leaving Parkrose Builders Ltd in 2012, John then joined Paul and formed the Carpentry and Joinery arm of Blou Construction. John’s responsibilities within Blou therefore lie with the Carpentry and Joinery side of the business, managing the day-to-day running of the Carpentry contracts and also managing the manufacture and delivery of Joinery items to site.
Jeff started his career as a Quantity Surveyor with Amec Construction working his way up to senior commercial manager on large office projects, police headquarters, and TV Studio developments. Freelance work followed on the Olympic Park, Stratford and in 2011 Jeff joined Blou where he helped develop and grow the business.
Matthew has over 15 years experience in the construction industry after starting his career as a trainee Quantity Surveyor in the early 2000’s, progressing to Senior Quantity Surveyor and achieving a 2:1 honours degree in Quantity Surveying before joining Blou in 2013.
Matthew is responsible for all commercial elements of the brickwork side of the company and has made a significant contribution to Blou’s growth and success.
Already with ten years’ experience in the construction industry, Luke joined Blou two years ago after completing his journey from an Apprentice to estimator within a previous high-end residential joinery company.
Luke is amongst our many graduates from the Building Crafts College in Stratford, although he has since stepped away from the manufacturing aspect within the industry, he has taken all this knowledge and know-how and put this into good use managing the Estimating department for the Carpentry & Joinery side of the business. With the aspiration to always do better and push forward, will help towards Blou moving forward within the sector.
Calum has been with Blou since their inception in 2012; beginning as a trainee and developing into a Project QS within 3 years. Graduating in May 2017 with 1st Class Honours in Quantity Surveying, Calum is currently enrolled on the RICS APC12 programme aiming to attain chartered status in late 2018.
Calum has played key role in a number of projects, notably Fleet Street, Fitzroy Place, Soho Square, Victoria House, UAH Cambridge, Selfridges and Upper Belgrave Street.
Mark has been working in construction and specifically carpentry & joinery for over 10 years. Starting his career with a well-known Carpentry & Joinery contractor in 2006, under the guidance of Blou Director, John James.
Mark studied Construction Management part-time, graduating in 2012 with 1st class honours. He then moved to a high-end Joinery company as Senior Estimator in 2012, before joining up with John again in 2014 at Blou. Mark has worked on some high-end projects with top contractors.
Richard began working at Blou in August 2015, coming straight from completing his A-Levels at Sixth Form to working as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor and having previously worked in retail. He is currently in his 3rd year of University studying for his BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying at Anglia Ruskin University alongside working for Blou.
Working for the Brickwork department, Richard has taken on a variety of roles within the company from project management to estimating. This has involved him in an array of different projects across a range of sizes and scope such as the Hounslow Civic Centre and Ravenswick Hall.
Joe began his time at Blou at the beginning of September 2017, just weeks after completing his GCSEs. Joe is Currently studying a BTEC in Construction at the College of North West London, which will allow him to enrol at a University and study to become a quantity surveyor.
As part of the brickwork Department, Joe has acquired the role of managing plant and buying materials, in addition to becoming involved with the management of various projects.
Joining Blou in early 2017, Ben arrived having previously gained a degree in Technology and plenty of previous experience in design. As part of the Carpentry division Ben assists the Senior Draughtsman, whilst also being responsible for all document control within current and upcoming projects.
George has over five years experience within the construction industry. In 2017, he achieved NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry & Joinery and is now in the early phases of training to become a Quantity Surveyor. He has quickly become an asset to the firm having played a key role in projects such as Camberwell Green, Montagu Square & New Kings Road.
With eight years’ experience in accounting positions within both the construction and travel industries, Marieta joined Blou in the early part of 2017 and with the experience she had gained in construction, Marieta was sought as the perfect candidate to control the accounting function of the company.
Marieta’s hard work has ensured that the company meets their business operation objectives, regulatory standards and continue building its external goodwill. Marieta is currently an ACCA affiliate and is working towards achieving full ACCA membership.
Molly joined Blou in the summer of 2016 having left school after completing her GCSE’s, boasting impressive results with ten grades A*-C & A-Levels. Molly is now working towards AAT qualification via home-learning.
Carly joined the team last summer following 14 years’ experience in Construction Education. Carly’s previous role as Apprentice Coordinator at the Building Crafts College meant that she already has a good relationship with our apprentices, having supported them all at College in recent years.
Carly also oversees all of our in house training and upskilling. With industry Health & Safety standards changing all the time, and the ever evolving work we do at Blou Construction, staff training and development is an imperative part of our business. Keeping our workforce well trained and educated allows us to maintain a sustainable and competitive advantage in the construction industry.
With 40 years’ experience in construction, Tony has been with Blou since 2016. Starting his construction journey with Hamilton Furniture Ltd at sixteen years of age, Tony began as a Trainee Cabinet Maker. Moving on to roles such as Joiner, Machinist and Team Leader with various previous Carpentry & Joinery companies before settling on his current position as a self-taught Draughtsman.
Within the past 40 years, Tony has worked on many high-end residential projects such as; One Hyde Park, 4 & 5 Grafton Street, Roundhill & 9 Palace Green.
